What Mesothelioma is?

Pleural mesothelioma is an increasingly common type of lung cancer brought on by exposure to asbestos. When inhaled, asbestos fibers become embedded in the pleura, or outer lining of the lungs, leaving behind scarring and lesions. These lesions and scars eventually develop into full-blown pleural mesothelioma, a deadly form of lung cancer for which there is no cure. Merlin Olsen, who played for the Los Angeles Rams for 15 seasons from 1962-76 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982, died early Thursday morning at the age of 69.
